Iconic Singer-Songwriter Jimmy Buffett, Beloved by Parrotheads, Passes Away at 76

Jimmy Buffett, the iconic singer-songwriter known for his laid-back tropical tunes, has passed away at the age of 76. The news of his death was confirmed by his official website and multiple media outlets. The statement released on his social page announced that he passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st, surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs. The cause of death has not been disclosed.


Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Buffett eventually settled in Key West, Florida, where he found his musical style. While he wasn't a chart-topping artist, his song "Margaritaville" in 1977 became a Top 10 hit. He cultivated a devoted fan base known as "Parrotheads," who embraced his carefree lifestyle filled with beaches, boats, alcohol, and a laid-back attitude.

Throughout his career, Jimmy Buffett expanded his influence beyond music. He ventured into writing bestselling books, created a Broadway musical, and established a successful business empire, including casual restaurants and resorts. He was also inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006, won two Country Music Association awards, and received Grammy Award nominations.

Before his passing, Buffett was gearing up to release a new album, with songs being previewed weekly on Radio Margaritaville.

Jimmy Buffett is survived by his wife, Jane Slagsvol, and three children.
